Bobby's Thoughts on Round 1 of the QSL
Last week everyone involved at olympic Im sure was very disappointed with the result against the Q.A.S.. Personally as the coach I feel that our performance suggests there is not a great deal wrong generally , with our play , although in saying that, it is clear that our ball movement and player movement off the ball needs to improve. Also our defending must improve as it was disappointing on the day .As a team when you score three goals at home and concede four it is extremely disappointing. The referee on the day, in my opinion had a reasonably good game , but I thought there were some contentious decisions given at vital times in the game , The penalty decision against us was questionable . My understanding of the rules are, and what you have to consider when giving a penalty are , did the player put hand to ball, or was it ball to hand. Also was the player looking to seek an advantage and was there any intent in his actions. The answer to all of those questions were a emphatic No .Was daniel byrne brought down in the box in a goalscoring position. In my opinion clearly yes .It would be nice to receive clarification on matters like this but you never do unfortunately .Lets just say we did not get the rub of the green on the day .
Some observers would argue that we were beaten by a better team on the day, and I have to give credit where credit is due . The young Q.A.S. boys played very well . They worked and fought hard for the ninety minutes , something I have tried to impress to our players that the harder you work the luckier you get . I am not however suggesting that the Q.A.S were lucky . Their efforts were admirable and the breaks that came their way they earned .From our perspective we did not take enough of the opportunities created and also by our poor defending on the day contributed to our demise . After the game the players were extremely disappointed and Im sure the next game cannot come quick enough for them and myself .As a coach I would be concerned if the result did not hurt them , but it did and over the season Im confident they are a group of players who will work even harder to right the wrongs that were evident on last weekends game. Looking ahead to this weekends game starts a three game run at home and we will be desperate to get a string of results together and get on a roll .Regardless of the opposition this next game, we must play attacking football and entertaining football . I hope the home crowd can get behind the boys because if they do, this will play a big part in securing the win that we so desperately want and need . Yours in sport Bobby hamilton .(head coach.) |
